He studies the scriptures and is inspired to pray by James 1:5- "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." He went into the forest to pray and ask which church was the true church. He was told in a vision that he should not join any of them. He was given other revelation at the time as well, which led to the restoration of the priesthood to the earth as well as the restoration of the true church, which is now known as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
